Environ celebrated World Wildlife Day on March 03 in 2025. Each year, the day marks the adoption of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in 1973.
At Environ’s celebration in association with Kolkata Police and Alipore Zoological Garden, the event was dedicated to serve as a reminder of the importance of wildlife and the need to Save The Tigers from the threats of habitat loss, poaching, man-animal conflict, and climate change.
Associating with Kolkata Police’s ‘Pronam’ at Alipore Zoological Garden
Environ and Alipore Zoological Garden celebrated World Wildlife Day 2025 at the zoo premises with a group of seniors who live by themselves in Kolkata, and are all members of Pronam, Kolkata Police’s outreach programme for senior citizens.
Mr. Biswajit Roy Chowdhury, Editor-in-Chief – Environ, Mr. Shiladitya Chaudhury, Editor – Environ, Dr. Piyali Chattopadhyay, Deputy Director – Alipore Zoological Garden and Mr. Shahanshah Mirza, scion of the family of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah who donated his private collection of animals to the zoo when it was formed, were amongst the dignitaries who flagged off the electricity-operated carts carrying the senior citizens.
Taking a Pledge to Protect Tigers
The highlight of the event was the pledge to protect our Royal Bengal Tigers. Environ is committed to foster awareness, involvement, and appreciation of the wild and the conversation of the tiger, India’s national animal and pride of Bengal, is a cause that the publication is passionate about. Placards with ‘Save The Tigers’ and tying tiger print wristbands on one another was part of the act to raise awareness of the rich beauty of the tiger in the forest and how we can collectively work together to ensure that the majestic animal roams wild and free on Earth.
